Hear from Mr Soe Min Tun as he shares his BIM learning journey, experiences and work with us.
Mr Soe Min Tun has always been interested in new technologies and construction processes as a drafter in a local construction company. When he learnt that BCA Academy was offering the Specialist Diploma in BIM and with BIM being touted as a game-changer for the construction industry, he took up the part-time 5-month course in 2012 to learn more about BIM.
Mr Tun said, “The course not only enabled me to increase my knowledge on BIM, I was able to apply what I have learnt into my work. My job scope was expanded from just modelling to construction planning, projects tendering, pre-coordination, setting up of BIM teams for new projects and conducting in-house BIM training. With the expanded job scope, I was promoted to BIM Manager last year with an increase of about twice my previous salary.”
Obtaining a Merit Award in the Specialist Diploma course further encouraged Mr Tun to take up the Bachelor of Construction Management (Building) programme conferred by the University of Newcastle, Australia, on a scholarship offered by BCA.
Armed with this new found BIM knowledge and skillsets, Mr Tun now finds it easier to manage BIM projects and is able to handle all 3 disciplines (Architectural, Structural and MEP) in coordination and collaboration amongst his project teams. He has also contributed to the ‘BIM Essential Guide for Contractors’ published in 2013 by BCA.
