Annotation and detailing

36) When dimensions are in a linked file that is a nested link, they do not appear in the master file

Autodesk) Under Visibility Graphics – go to Revit Links tab, change display settings to Custom then go to Annotation Categories change to custom then turn Dimensions ON.
Apply to view and then create a view template from current view apply this template to all other sections.

37) The dimensions added for the elements in the link file might be lost unexpectedly when opening the master again. This happens due to slight transformation of the link which happens in Revit.

Autodesk) Please provide a sample model file

38) Dimension – Not able to put dimension on curved or slanting objects like ramp.

Autodesk) Wishlist Item. Workaround can be to use a reference line in order to dimension.

39) Revit submission for conservation shop-house units, the slanted and non-parallel walls are difficult to dimension in Revit. And the tools that are available in the software to draw the mouldings, etc where required by URA are limited.

Autodesk) Wishlist Item. Workarounds in these scenarios include the use of the linear dimension tool to dimension point to point, alternatively we can use reference lines.

40) Revit should have a capability to calculate the center of the irregular or customized object.

41) Symbols cannot be placed in the elevation or section view. Eg. Objects with the same geometry but different functions like valves etc.

Autodesk) Symbols such as valves can be placed in the Elevation View.

42) Symbols are not showing when the family is placed on the slanted surfaces.

Autodesk) Please provide a sample model file

43) Symbol size should follow view scale.

Autodesk) Symbols change scale in Model based upon Symbol Family Settings.

44) Dash lines or hidden lines cannot be created when creating generic annotation like symbols.

Autodesk) Wishlist Item

45) Cannot create dash lines with Text in between

46) Option to create more line thickness (eg. 1.5, 2.5, etc)?

Autodesk) Line Thickness changes as per Lineweight settings with reference to the view scale

47) Cannot create filled region on the family editing windows.

Autodesk) Please provide a sample model file

48) Fill patterns in Revit always follow the view orientation. There is no way for the fill to follow the orientation of the elements.

49) Detail – Cleaning up of line works when there are multiple elements overlapping is tedious. When elements were joined for the purpose of cleaning up the model size increase. It is tedious to tidy overlapping lines or slab boundaries that cut through walls. Unwanted lines – a cut section / elevation / a 2D plan generated from a 3D model produces several additional lines (believed to be the faces of the 3D model, that became lines when the model is ‘flattened’) requires a lot of ‘cleaning’ up of the model. Extremely tedious to tidy up if engineer requires the model to be exported to analysis softwares (seems to be more of a problem in Revit 2012, Revit 2013 seems improved)

Autodesk) Please provide a sample model file and please indicate unwanted 2D lines

50) Better to have option so that user can choose either slab will cut beam or beam will cut slab. This is related to drawing presentation and quantity take off

Autodesk) Wishlist Item

51) In REVIT 2012 – many additional lines are churned out when the 3D model is viewed in 2D (plan view). These lines are likely the lines forming the 4 faces of the beams/slabs etc, so drafters have to hide these lines. There’s a lot of cleaning up in this process. They cannot remove them as the lines could be the actual line defining the beam/slab. Subsequently when the REVIT is exported to analysis model, these additional lines needs to be removed by the engineers, another tedious cleaning up process.

Autodesk) Please provide a sample model file and please indicate unwanted 2D lines

52) Make “Annotation” more friendly. It has great limitations. To select all instances of Column or Beam tags so to number (with prefix or suffix option) in ascending order automatically? Very time consuming and inefficient to assign markings in REVIT!

Autodesk) Please provide a sample model file and  Sample tag

53) Plan presentation for submission purpose

54) When the project is an A&A project the amount of existing parts to be drawn in Revit, and on top of that, the area calculation tabulated, have to show the existing approved area (example GFA) Area Tabulation in Revit is controlled by the verging lines and as far as accuracy purposes, for example Site area and Site coverage area calculation, also Quantum area calculation. The 2 totals are very difficult to match, because of the decimal round up

Autodesk) Please provide a sample model.

55) Green Buffer Line, Boundary Line, etc are not reflected in the elevations and sections. They become manual inputs, and when the elevations or sections change position these lines become prone to unforeseen mistakes.
